Very few procedures are as popular as Botox in Plano TX. This minimally invasive facial rejuvenation procedure helps to reverse the signs of aging by improving the appearance of wrinkles. Botox is a great option if you are experiencing mild to moderate facial aging and want to avoid extensive plastic surgery associated with facelift.
How Botox works
Our muscles contract when we smile, frown or even when we make other facial expressions. These constant muscle movements make the skin to become elastic or draw together resulting to the formation of frown lines and wrinkles. When Botox is injected into the facial muscles, it blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscle can no longer contract which makes the wrinkles to soften and relax. Botox is mostly used on crow’s feet, forehead lines and frown lines. However, the wrinkles that are caused by gravity and sun damage do not respond to Botox.
How Botox is performed
Botox treatment takes only a few minutes and no anesthesia is required. Botox is injected into the specific muscle using a fine needle. It generally takes 3-5 days to take full effect but the results vary from one patient to another. The effect of Botox last 4-6 months. As the muscle action begin to return, the wrinkles and lines begin to re-appear and should be retreated. With time, the wrinkles and lines often appear less severe because the muscles are being trained how to remain relaxed. It is best to avoid alcohol at least one week before the treatment. Anti-inflammatory medications and aspirin should also be avoided before the treatment to reduce bruising. Botox should not be used by lactating or pregnant women or people who are allergic to the drug or any of its ingredients.
Do not lie down for at least an hour after Botox injections. This is because the Botox can migrate into another muscle group. Avoid heavy lifting, straining or vigorous exercise for at least 4 hour after the treatment. This is because it takes the treatment about 4 hours to bind itself to the nerve and start working. Exercise or straining increases blood circulations which can wash away Botox from where it was injected. Avoid manipulating the injected area for at least 4 hours after the treatment. This includes not massaging, doing facial or microdermabrasion.
Medical uses of Botox
Though Botox is primarily used as a treatment to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, it can also be used to treat a variety of other medical conditions such as drooling in parkinson’s disease, crossed eyes, depression, eyelid muscle spasm, excessive sweating and body odor, migraines, eye squints, overactive bladder, muscle spasm and others.
